The Monitor National Marine Sanctuary offers a variety of free resources for educators. The Sanctuary staff also offers free in-school programs on a variety of topics for the k-12 audience. For additional information about specific products & program, or to request copies of products not available on this web site, please contact monitor@noaa.gov. Education List Serve

This digest format list serve provides regular updates on sanctuary activities, the latest in information on shipwrecks and important marine science issues, educational resources, useful web sites, career and job opportunities in marine science, and more. To subscribe, send an email to monitor@noaa.gov with “education email list subscription” in the subject line.

NMSP Brochure

This full-color brochure provides an overview of the entire National Marine Sanctuary Program, including images and descriptions of each site within the system.

MNMS Brochure & Factsheet

These materials include information about the sanctuary's location, flora and fauna, management, etc. Due to the reading level and some technical content, this brochure is probably best used with upper middle or high school level students. Classroom sets of 25 brochures may also be requested. Samples of each are available on our sanctuary publications page.

Monitor NMS 2006 Expedition Video

This 15-minute video invites you to join the researchers and crew aboard the University of Rhode Island's research vessel Endeavor as they travel to the Monitor during the summer of 2006. The sanctuary's education and outreach coordinator introduces viewers to life aboard a research vessel and describes the technology used to capture video and still images of the Monitor to create a new photographic mosaic of the site. The video is archived on http://www.oceanslive.org (click on “archived video” above the video monitor). Free DVDs are available by contacting monitor@noaa.gov

Single copies of various posters are available while supplies last. To find out which posters are currently available, please contact monitor@noaa.gov.

Monitor Paper Model

This activity is available on our sanctuary publications page. However, if you do not have access to a color printer that can print on cardstock feel free to request a hard copy. The paper model is a good starting point to have students familiarize themselves with the layout of the USS Monitor.
