Management Overview
Management of the Monitor National Marine Sanctuary is composed of a number of components including authorizing legislation, regulations, management plans and permitting. Management plans are site-specific documents that the Office of National Marine Sanctuaries uses to manage individual sanctuaries. Sanctuaries are managed to protect and conserve their resources and to allow uses that are compatible with resource protection. The public management plan review process began for the Monitor NMS in 2008. With the help of the Monitor National Marine Sanctuary Advisory Council and other constituents and stakeholders, working groups reviewed the previous management plans and made recommendations, as we charted a new course for the future.
